The Gunn Show is a collection of my personal musings - insights and thoughts I’ve gathered from explorations at the edge of my curiosity.
My intent behind this publication is to spend time more deeply processing the world around me; to move from mindless consumption to thoughtful curation.
I’m on a mission to better understand both myself and the world around me, so that I can reflect those insights back into my life. These are the lenses through which I look at the world, and the underlying questions that drive them:
The Pursuit of Excellence: What are the common traits of high performers that have helped them create value for the world? How do they cultivate the best versions of themselves?
Mental Models/Frameworks: What are effective tools and strategies I can utilize to think more clearly and find signal amidst the noise?
Storytelling: What are the commonalities of powerful storytellers? How do you tell stories that captivate the people around you?
Businesses/Organizations: How do you build effective organizations that have the ability to change the trajectory of both the world and the people in them?
Innovation: What are the hallmarks of innovation, in both individuals and companies? How do the things that change the world get built?
Leadership: What does it mean to lead? How do you help others become the best versions of themselves?
Memetics/Psychology: Why do we want what we want, and how do you live a life where you are in control to the greatest extent possible?
Sports: Why is sport such a powerful force in our society? Why do we care so much, and how can we use sport as a lever to positively shape the world?
Health/Fitness: How do I live a healthy and whole lifestyle in a world of abundance, where wants are at the tip of your fingers at all times?
If any of these resonate with you, please come along for the ride.
About Me
My name is Conner Gunn. I grew up in Kingsport, a small town nestled in the mountains of Northeast Tennessee.
Early in my life I found myself gripped by a 5 oz leather object with 2 seams and 108 red stitches. That little white baseball has taken me places I never could have imagined - from south of the Mason Dixon line to 4 different continents and 9 different countries.
It eventually led me to Amherst, MA where I played collegiate baseball at Amherst College for four years and graduated with a degree in mathematics in 2016. And now it has led me to Dallas, TX where I currently work in the front office for the Texas Rangers MLB team.
But while many of my experience have revolved around America’s Pastime, I’ve always maintained a deep interest in the inner-workings of the world. I’m fascinated by a great number of things - business, philosophy, math, and science to name a few. Life for me has thus been an exercise in duplicity, one lived at the intersection between sport and the various aspects of the world with which it intersects.
I’m a husband to a beautiful wife, a son to two amazing parents, and ‘dog dad’ to a miniature bernedoodle. I’m also an avid reader, thinker, and writer in the free time the world permits me. I’m a Rational Optimist about creating a positive version of the world in which we live, and believe wholeheartedly in each of us taking the journey to find the best versions of ourselves.
